League Designated Fund Aids CU Employees Affected by Harvey — 9/8/17

The West Virginia Credit Union League Designated Fund announced Thursday it is donating $5,000 to Harvey relief efforts through CUAid, the National Credit Union Foundation's disaster relief system. In addition, a $4,000 emergency grant is being sent to two employees of Bayer Heritage FCU’s Baytown, Texas branch who were impacted by the storm.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the credit unions and the many people affected by Harvey,” said League President Ken Watts. “Our Designated Fund Committee wanted to make sure we contributed to the CUAid national relief effort which has raised over $1 million thus far,” he added.

The West Virginia Designated Fund was established many years ago by the League and was transferred in 2014 to the National Credit Union Foundation who now administers it. Over many years, the fund has provided scholarships to member credit unions and to disaster relief efforts both locally, and nationally. The fund is still governed by local credit union representatives who periodically review funding requests. In 2016, the Designated Fund donated $35,000 to the Brad Paisley Foundation to help in flood relief efforts in Southern West Virginia. Other donations included donations to Louisiana and the Carolinas Foundation flood relief efforts.
