West Virginia League Assessing Credit Union Flood Damage in Affected Areas — 6/27/16

The West Virginia Credit Union League has asked their credit unions for feedback in advising them of any flood damage to their operations including employees who have been personally affected. The record flooding in many parts of southern West Virginia last week, wiped out many small communities who have never witnessed that degree of local flash flooding.

“We have already received calls from in, and outside of West Virginia from those wanting to help, and for that, we are extremely grateful,” said League Senior Vice President Rich Schaffer. “The credit union movement, both nationally and locally, are very generous and are looking for ways to help their fellow credit unions as they have done in previous natural disasters.”

As of Monday afternoon, the League had not been notified of any credit unions adversely affected, but are still gathering feedback through various channels.

“Thus far, we are thankful for the good news we have received amidst a very grim situation for many state residents,” Schaffer commented. “We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days.”

The League office is located in Parkersburg, and was not affected by flooding which occurred south of their location.
