Gift Basket Pledges Heating Up For April 21 Live Auction — 4/7/16

Pledge Deadline is April 15

PARKERSBURG, W.VA.—With a little more than a week before the pledge deadline, the gift basket pledges by credit unions, chapters, vendors, and individuals are heating up according to auction coordinator Leslie Newland.

The auction, to will be held on April 21 at the Embassy Suites in Charleston, will benefit the WV Designated Fund of the National Credit Union Foundation. The fund provides local credit union representatives local scholarships to League and CUNA sponsored schools and conferences.

“We have received a number of really nice themed gift basket pledges thus far,” Newland commented. “Some of these include a designer Moschino handbag and a Time Travel gift basket. We have a total of 25 baskets pledged with a total value of $4,000, but we definitely welcome more,” Newland added.

Newland emphasized that anyone wanting to pledge a basket may contact her at the League office to obtain a pledge form up until the deadline. The phone number is 800-642-1946 and email address is lnewland@wvcul.org.

Following Thursday night’s activities which will include a cocktail reception hosted by CUNA Mutual Group, a Friday morning “breakfast with exhibitors” will be sponsored by VolCorp from 8:00 am until 9:30 am. At 10:00 am, CUNA Economist Mike Schenk will kick-off the morning education session with an economic update. Former credit union CEO turned author, and speaker, John Tippets will be the featured Friday luncheon speaker with his Hearts of Courage presentation. Following lunch, former CUNA and NCUA staffer John McKechnie will be on hand to provide a legislative and regulatory update in a Q&A discussion format with League President Ken Watts. Schenk will follow the session with his own called, Five to Thrive: A Strategic Guide for Small Credit Unions.

The Friday night banquet will feature NBC’s The Voice Season 8 contestant, Cody Wickline. The aspiring country music star is a native of Beckley, WV and released his first album via I Tunes last month.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s awards breakfast sponsored by League partner CO-OP Financial Services, former American P.O.W. Jessica Lynch will address the group and share her dramatic story on overcoming obstacles in the face of adversity. Lynch’s rescue was the first successful rescue of an American POW since World War II.

Following a brief intermission at the conclusion of Lynch’s presentation, the League’s Annual Meeting business session will kick-off at 10:00 am. and will be chaired by Lynne Teets, who was elected League Chairman last year. Teets is a Director from the Wheeling Chapter, District 10.

Since 1938, the West Virginia Credit Union League Annual Meeting has become an annual spring tradition that joins together credit union officials and staff to forge new friendships, celebrate their cooperative heritage, and to recognize achievement among staff and volunteers.
