88th League Annual Meeting Concludes with Election of Table Officers — 4/30/24

CHARLESTON, WV--Mike Tucker, West Virginia Central FCU, Parkersburg was elected Chairman of the West Virginia Credit Union League board of directors at the board’s re-organizational meeting immediately following the League’s 88th Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Tucker had been serving the unexpired term of Tom Walker who passed away last November. He has served as League Chairman two previous times over his 40 plus year career.

Other board officers that were elected include:

 Vice Chairman – Mike Dean, Hope FCU, Bridgeport, WV;

Treasurer - Sherry Peck, Martinsburg V.A. FCU, Martinsburg, WV;

Secretary – Cindy Dickey, Fairmont FCU, Fairmont, WV.

Awards, Recognition and a Resolution

The 88th Annual Meeting concluded on Saturday, April 22 following a mix of social and educational activities, living up to its theme of Converge ’24.

Following the Saturday business session, several awards and a resolution were presented.

Kelly Ward, CEO of Marshall Co. FCU and her son, Aaden received 50th anniversary League and America’s Credit Union’s recognition certificates. With League assistance, the credit union was organized and chartered in 1974 as the Marshall Co. School EFCU and later changed its name in 1987.

The Parkersburg Chapter received the Challenge of the Chapters Award Cup for a third year in a row for their efforts in 2023. Chapter President Michelle Fitcher was on hand to receive the award which is based on their outstanding chapter participation.

First Choice America Community FCU CEO Scott Winwood was presented the state level Dora Maxwell Award for his credit union’s outstanding social responsibility projects in their community.

Heidi Schmoyer, Eastern Panhandle FCU, was awarded the Chapter Leadership Award from her chapter.

Both Hope FCU and Kemba Charleston FCU were recognized for their contributions to the League Designated Fund which is administered by the National Credit Union Foundation. Individuals recognized for their contributions included Cindy Dickey, Fairmont FCU, Ron Bragg and Mike Dean, both from Hope FCU.

One resolution was presented to the meeting delegates, by former League President Ken Watts who presented it on behalf of the League Board. The resolution, honored former League Chairman Tom Walker for his 60 years of service to the West Virginia Credit Union movement. Walker had a distinguished career as a CUNA Mutual representative before retiring in 2001. He later wen to serve on the League Board for over 20 years until his death. He was also the Chairman of Universal FCU in Huntington.

Sweepstakes Winners

The America’s Credit Union’s PAC (formerly CULAC) hybrid sweepstakes raised a total of $1,250. Thursday’s winner was Calvin Holden, Kemba Charleston FCU who won a Blackstone Tabletop Grill.

Friday’s winner was Joetta Heck, Kemba Charleston FCU who won a Karcher Power Washer.

Saturday’s winner was Cindy Dickey, Fairmont FCU who won a limited edition Blenko glass water vase.

Each day’s drawing was conducted by ACUPAC officials.

The 2025 League Annual Meeting will be held in Charleston, but a location and exact dates will be announced at a later time.
