NBC’s The Voice Contestant, Cody Wickline to Perform at League Annual Meeting Banquet — 3/16/16

VolCorp CU Sponsors Banquet Entertainment and Friday Exhibitor Breakfast

PARKERSBURG, W.VA.—He may be young in years lived, but his country music voice sounds like that of a seasoned Grand Ole Opry performer. Raleigh County, WV native Cody Wickline wowed the judges on NBC’s The Voice Season 8 last year with his rendition of the George Jones’ classic tune He Stopped Loving Her Today. While eventually being cut from the competition on a later show, Wickline’s exposure to a national audience provided a springboard to a promising career in country music. Cody’s debut album, Son of a Working Man was recently released in the I Tunes store for purchase.

“We are fortunate to have a rising young talent like Cody Wickline join us for our Friday evening banquet at the Embassy Suites in Charleston,” commented League President Ken Watts. “Cody is true to his West Virginia roots and has endeared himself to many country music fans nationally in a short period of time,” he added. Volunteer Corporate Credit Union is sponsoring in part the banquet entertainment and Friday morning “Breakfast with Exhibitors.”

Friday evening’s activities will be proceeded by educational sessions earlier in the day. CUNA Economist Mike Schenk will provide a credit union economic update in the morning and return in the afternoon with a review of the CUNA whitepaper, Five to Thrive: Strategic Guide for Small Credit Unions. Former credit union CEO turned author and speaker will be the featured luncheon speaker with his Hearts of Courage presentation. Following lunch, former CUNA and NCUA staffer John McKechnie will be on hand to provide a legislative and regulatory update in a Q&A discussion format with League President Ken Watts.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s awards breakfast sponsored by League partner CO-OP Financial Services, former American P.O.W. Jessica Lynch will address the group and share her dramatic story on overcoming obstacles in the face of adversity. On March 23, 2003, Lynch was injured and captured by Iraqi forces after her unit was ambushed in Iraq. She was rescued after nine days in captivity on April 1, 2003 by U.S. special operations forces. Jessica’s rescue was the first successful rescue of an American POW since World War II.

The 80th League Annual Meeting Official Call has been mailed out to all member credit unions and is available to view online.

Since 1938, the West Virginia Credit Union League Annual Meeting has become an annual spring tradition that joins together credit union officials and staff to forge new friendships, celebrate their cooperative heritage, and to recognize achievement among staff and volunteers.
